Treasurer, Board of Trustees

The National Road Safety Alliance (NRSA) is a nonprofit organization committed to advancing road safety across the Philippines. Through education, advocacy, and community-led initiatives, we aim to create a culture of responsibility and safety on our roads. By engaging citizens and supporting policy reforms, we work to prevent road crashes and save lives.

We are seeking a mission-driven and qualified individual to join our Board of Trustees as Treasurer. This is a volunteer leadership position critical to ensuring financial accountability, sustainability, and transparency as we pursue safer roads and empowered communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate financial records and oversee day-to-day bookkeeping

  • Monitor the organization’s financial health and ensure proper cash flow management
  • Prepare and present financial reports to the Board of Trustees
  • Ensure compliance with relevant financial, tax, and reporting requirements for NGOs in the Philippines
  • Assist in grant budget preparation, donor reporting, and financial planning for fundraising
  • Support external financial audits and reviews
  • Provide strategic input on fiscal matters and collaborate with the Chairperson and other Board members

Qualifications

  • Strong background in finance, accounting, or business administration
  • CPA license or equivalent professional experience highly desirable
  • Experience with nonprofit financial management is a strong plus
  • Knowledge of Philippine tax regulations and compliance requirements for NGOs
  • Proficiency in budgeting, financial analysis, and reporting tools (e.g., Excel, accounting software)
  • High integrity, attention to detail, and ability to work independently in a remote environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy, Finance, Business Administration, or related field

Fundraising Culture

At NRSA, every Board Member is expected to contribute to the financial health of the organization. We follow the principle of “Give, Get, or Get Off”, which reflects our values of shared responsibility and sustainability:

  • Give: You may choose to make a voluntary personal donation.
  • Get: You may help raise funds, build partnerships, or bring in other resources.
  • Get Off: You may step down if unable to support in either way.

As part of this culture, the Treasurer plays a key leadership role in upholding and encouraging financial stewardship within the Board. This includes:

  • Reminding the Board of Trustees about the “Give, Get, or Get Off” principle during regular meetings or financial updates
  • Presenting the current month’s operational expenses to help the Board understand our financial needs
  • Encouraging contributions by clearly explaining how each Board member can support sustainability through giving or resource mobilization

This responsibility ensures transparency, keeps financial needs visible, and promotes a shared commitment to NRSA’s ongoing operations and mission impact.

This is a volunteer and remote position with flexible hours, ideal for someone passionate about public service and road safety. As part of our founding board, you will help shape the financial foundation of a growing nonprofit.

What We Can Offer:

  • Recognition and visibility in national road safety advocacy efforts
  • Leadership development, networking, and growth opportunities
  • Engagement in high-impact programs and advocacy initiatives
  • Certificate of service and letters of recommendation
  • The opportunity to help shape a national alliance from the ground up

When Budget Permits:

We hope to offer modest per diem or honorarium for:

  • Attending out-of-town events and conferences
  • Leading or representing NRSA in official capacities

As NRSA expands through partnerships and funding, honoraria or performance-based incentives for key volunteer leaders will be considered, subject to financial sustainability and Board review.

If you’re a committed finance professional who believes in making roads safer and communities stronger, we’d love to hear from you.
